(BPT) - Jobs in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) are the second-fastest growing job sector over the next decade, yet women comprise just 24 percent of the STEM workforce. Why? Many girls do not perceive themselves as being successful in STEM-related careers because they lack real-life role models and lose interest over time, eventually choosing careers in other fields. Grassroots efforts like DeVry University's STEM Ready initiative introduce high school students to careers in STEM and show high school girls that STEM fields are challenging, rewarding and attainable for them.
