BOSTON (AP) — Wynn Resorts has said it will offer workers at Suffolk Downs in Massachusetts their preference for thousands of new jobs at its proposed $1.6 billion casino -- if it wins the sole gambling license for the Boston-area.
The horse track, which straddles East Boston and Revere, is the site of a proposed $1.3 billion Mohegan Sun casino that is also seeking the casino license. The track has said it may have to close its doors if Mohegan Sun loses its bid.
Wynn said the proposal, on a 30-acre former chemical plant along the Mystic River, will create more than 4,000 permanent casino jobs.
The state Gaming Commission is holding a Wednesday public hearing to hear arguments and possibly render a decision on Boston's request to delay the licensing process until the November election.
