Windy and Turning Cooler
The half an inch to inch of rain that moved through last night and early this morning is now gone in the wake of a cold front. The storm system that dragged the cold front through early this morning is intensifying to the north and east of us, which will cause the wind to blow pretty hard at times today. The cooler and somewhat drier air mass that is being blown in now should allow some breaks of sun to develop, especially during the midday and afternoon hours. However, there will be a surface trof of low pressure and a strong upper level disturbance moving into the area later today and tonight. This will create quite a few clouds and keep the threat for a shower or two going through tonight, especially north and west of Albany. Temperatures today started off very mild well into the 50s, but have fallen back into the upper 40s to around 50 now and will likely hover there for the midday, before dropping into mid to upper 40s by dinner time this evening.

Thankfully, though, yet another area of high pressure will slide in from the southwest and provide us with a pretty nice weekend! I believe Saturday will start off a little cloudy thanks to some lake clouds, but I do believe we will clear it out some to kick off the weekend. High pressure will crest over the region on Sunday which should lead to plenty of sun. Temperatures over the weekend should top out within a few degrees of 50.

Early next week will likely look and eventually feel more like November with lots of clouds, some rain, patchy drizzle and fog, as a storm moves up the eastern seaboard. Right now Tuesday and Wednesday look quiet and pretty gray, but good for traveling around the northeast. Thanksgiving and "Black Friday" MAY get kind of interesting and wintry.

Yes, Those are Clouds up There...
Well, after 3 days of nothing but blue sky and sun it will change today. Again though, let me remind everyone that this month is climatologically one of, if not, the cloudiest month of the year, but that definitely has not been the case this November!

The reason for all the great weather as of late is a strong high pressure system that unfortunately is beginning to weaken and drift off the eastern seaboard. This will finally allow the storm system that has been hanging out in the midwest the last few days to move into our neighborhood. The result will be an increase in cloud cover during the day today, and there's even a slight risk for a spotty shower or two Albany southbound late in the day. As the storm and it's occluded/cold front move into and through the area late tonight into Friday morning we will see some rain. The good news concerning this storm is that it will be progressive and should allow us to break out into at least breaks of sun for the midday and much of the afternoon hours tomorrow. It will turn brisk during our Friday with temperatures dropping out of the 50s and into the 40s during the afternoon.

Thankfully, though, yet another area of high pressure will slide in from the southwest and provide us with a pretty nice weekend! Both Saturday and Sunday will feature some sun and temperatures within a few degrees of 50, which is slightly above average for this time of year.

Early next week will likely feel and look more like November with lots of clouds, some rain, patchy drizzle and fog, as a nor'easter moves up the eastern seaboard.

Almost a Carbon Copy of Yesterday!
Well, guess what!? We have another great looking day on tap for this 18th day of November. Let me remind everyone that this is one of, if not, the cloudiest month of the year, but we will continue to have more sunny days than not between now and the end of this upcoming weekend!

The reason for the great weather between now and later Thursday is an area of strong high pressure located right on top of us today. This high pressure system will keep us essentially cloudless through the start of tomorrow, before it begins to lose it's grip on the region and give way to a Midwest storm system. So after a nice day today and another frosty night tonight, we will see the abundant sunshine be replaced by an increase in cloud cover Thursday afternoon. The weakening storm across the Midwest will not only increase our clouds tomorrow, but may even bring a shower or two to the region by late in the day. Tomorrow night into Friday the likelihood of some wet weather will increase greatly, as the storm and it's cold front slowly into and through the area. The good news with this storm is that it looks as though it will move through fairly quickly and allow us to possibly clear a bit later Friday, but especially so over the weekend!

High pressure will try to save our upcoming weekend weather and should provide some sun for both Saturday and especially Sunday. On Saturday there will be brisk winds and still the threat of a passing shower/sprinkle, especially north and west of Albany due to a bit of lake effect off Ontario. Sunday looks to be the better of the two days with more sun and fairly seasonable temperatures again.

Early next week may turn Novemberish with lots of clouds, some rain, drizzle and fog, as a nor'easter moves up the eastern seaboard.

The Nice November of 2009 Continues!
Mother Naturing's pampering of the northeast continues on this Tuesday! Let me remind everyone that the average high this time of year is in the mid 40s. With that being said, most of, if not all, the 7day planner will be at or above average temperature wise, with the majority of the days featuring at least some sun too!

The reason for the great weather between now and later Thursday is an area of strong high pressure located just north of the Great Lakes. This high pressure system will continue to build it's way in over the next 24 hours ensuring abundant sun and slightly above average temperatures by day and frosty cold nights through the forementioned period.

Meanwhile, a healthy storm across the mid-Mississippi River Valley that's cut-off from the main upper level flow will slowly be pushed by an upper level trough to the northeast. By Thursday night into Friday the likelihood of some wet weather will increase greatly,, as the storm slowly moves through.

The early outlook into the weekend doesn't look too bad right now. Some sun and fairly seasonable temperatures with maybe a passing shower or two on Saturday. The storm that looked like it would soak us Sunday now looks as though may wait to possibly affect us Monday instead.

Another Nice November Day!
After a split weekend with a lousy Saturday and fairly nice Sunday, it appears that we will be getting spoiled some more for much of this week! Let me remind everyone that the average high this time of year is 47 and most of, if not all, of the 7day planner will display above average temperatures.

A strong area of high pressure across the Central Great Lakes is building in in the wake of the cold front that passed through last night. In the cold front's wake, a north-north westerly wind will blow at a pretty good clip and usher in a drier, cooler, but not colder air mass to begin the work and school week. The strong area of high pressure that is currently building in will control the weather here in the capital region through much of the week. Meanwhile, a strong storm across the Nation's Heartland will cut-off from the main upper level flow and wait until a trof approaches and kicks it toward us, but not until the end of the week.

So, if you like today you'll enjoy Tuesday, Wednesday and much of Thursday this week! That's because high pressure will be anchored overhead and result in a good deal of sun and temperatures ranging from the low to mid 50s throughout the period. Hard to believe, I know!

The storm over nation's heartland will begin to provide some clouds later Thursday and ultimately should push some showers in here Thursday night into Friday. After Friday it gets a bit tricky. A couple of our model forecasts are suggesting a coastal storm to develop and soak us later Saturday into Sunday, while other model data suggests a pretty tranquil weekend with maybe some sun. Bottom line, you are going to want to stay tuned for more info concerning the weekend over the next few days as the new info comes in.

Ida Looms to the South...
Hello capital region...

The same area of high pressure that provided us with a pleasant Veteran's Day will continue to keep us dry with some filtered sun today into the start of Friday. Unfortunately, as of now, it does appear that the remnants of Ida, currently centered along the North Carolina shores, will eventually have an impact on the region later Friday through Saturday. Ironically, the same high pressure system that's protecting the area now will ultimately aid in delivering some of Ida's moisture into our region. As the high slides away to the north & east on tomorrow, the winds will shift and increase out of the east off the Atlantic. This will take some of Ida's moisture that will be creeping north and bring it into the capital region. We are not expecting to receive a lot of rain out of Ida's remains, but we should experience lots of low clouds, a few showers and some fog and drizzle too to begin the weekend. Needless to say, it will be a pretty brisk and raw on Saturday. Now if we are really lucky Ida will move far enough to the east tomorrow into Saturday and leave us high and dry through much, if not all, of the weekend. I wouldn't count on the later scenario to happen, but there is a chance, albeit slim. Either way, Sunday will likely be mainly dry and gray with maybe a little afternoon sun and somewhat milder temperatures. A cold front will come through later in the day Sunday and possibly trigger a shower or two, but little, if any, rain is expected with the front.

Behind Sunday's cold front we will turn more seasonable to begin next week with more in the way of sun returning again!

More of a November Feel
Thank you to all the Veterans and to those of you who are serving this country in years past and currently, respectively. It's you, that we all can thank for providing us with all of the freedoms we have today.

Mother Nature will also pay her respect to all that have and currently serve this country by providing us with increasing sun and seasonably cool temperatures on this Veteran's Day. Yes, it will not be another 60°+ degree day with sun, but it is the middle of November. The responsible party for our nice weather today, and for that matter through Friday, is a strong area of high pressure moving in from the Central Great Lakes. It's this area of high pressure that will at least temporarily protect us from the remnants of Ida located to the south across the Mid-Atlantic and Carolinas.

Unfortunately, as of now, it does appear that the remnants of Ida will eventually have an impact on the region later Friday night into at least Saturday. Ironically, high pressure that will protect us through Friday will actually most likely aid in delivering some of Ida's rain into the region. As the high slides away to the north & east on Friday, the winds will shift and increase out of the east off the Atlantic. This will ultimately take some of Ida's moisture that will be creeping north and bring it into the capital region. With that all being said, though, there still is a chance that Ida's moisture will completely miss us and we will remain dry through much of the weekend. Stay tuned for updates concerning the weekend outlook over the next couple days.

Another Mild November Day!
Hello capital region, Today will likley make it 3 days in a row of 60°+ temperatures in November! We will not see too much sun on this Tuesday, as clouds will linger behind a departing cold front throughout the day. However, despite the lack of sun the temperatures will still top out around 60, before slowly slipping through the 50s during the afternoon.

A more seasonable air mass will continue to drain in on a northerly flow through Wednesday, setting the stage for a more November feel to the air through at least Friday.

It appears the battle between high pressure sliding in from the west and Ida across the southeast will initially be won by high pressure through the end of the week for us. However, there are indications that Ida will slide up the eastern seaboard and be close enough to our region to provide some showers Friday night into Saturday. There is also a chance that Ida's moisture will completely miss us and we will be dry right through much of the weekend. Either way, Wednesday through at least the start of Friday now looks sunny, seasonably cool by day and a frosty chill at night. Stay tuned for updates concerning the weekend outlook over the next few days.

Another Great Day!
Hello capital region, After an absolutely stunning first full weekend of November, today will be just as nice! High pressure that provided all the sun and warmer temperatures over this past weekend will keep us high, dry and warm again today.

Late tonight into early Tuesday a cold front currently over the Central Great Lakes will swing through with some clouds and maybe an isolated shower/sprinkle. In the wake of the front it will turn cooler, but will still be on the mild side for this time of year on Tuesday. Temperatures will be near 60 with more in the way of clouds, but again still pretty nice for this time of year.

Later Tuesday night through Thursday all eyes will be on Ida, which will be making landfall late tonight near Pensacola, Florida as a strong tropical storm or weak hurricane. At this point it appears most, if not all of her rain will stay south of the region, but it could be a close call. High pressure will try to build in behind tonight's cold front and keep us protected, but if Ida moves far enough to the north we could pick up at least a little bit of rain late Tuesday night through Thursday. Either way, we will be feeling more like November with a brisk northeast wind, and temperatures within a few degrees of 50.

Come Friday, high pressure will likely be in control of our weather with sunshine and at or slightly above average temperatures to round out the week.

The early outlook for the weekend looks good Saturday and not quite as good Sunday with maybe a couple showers to end the weekend. Temperatures still look mainly above average through much of the weekend.

Cold Today, but...
The clipper and strong upper level energy that provided the area with clouds and some rain and snow showers late Thursday and last night is slowly pulling away. In the intensifying ocean storm's wake, a strong area of high pressure will build in later today into the start of the weekend. The result will be developing sun as we head through this Friday, winds going calm this evening, one of the coldest night's of the year tonight and a good deal of sun to start Saturday.

On Saturday, after the cold, sunny start more clouds will move in as we head into the afternoon ahead and with a warm front. A southwest breeze will also develop on Saturday which will aid the start of a warm up. Temperatures will become more seasonable on Saturday, before going slightly above average Sunday and well above average Monday and Tuesday next week! The big question for the tail end of the weekend and early next is...Will we stay dry?? Well, after the possibility of a passing shower or two Saturday night and early Sunday with an occluded front, we will be dry for much of Sunday and through at least the start of Tuesday.
