Mark Baker is the morning anchor at FOX23 News.  His career includes time in broadcast journalism, business, economic development and government.

He grew up on a farm in Missouri near the Mississippi River, the area that inspired Mark Twain to write the many exploits of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn.

Mark earned a Communications degree with an emphasis in business at the University of Missouri. He then worked in sales in Illinois before heading to California to work in the wine industry.

An interest in current affairs lead Mark to a career change in broadcast journalism. He began as a traffic reporter in Los Angeles, then landed a job at Money Radio where he interviewed many top financial analysts, economists and lawmakers. He then sequed into television, anchoring two shows for the Financial News Network (now CNBC).

When Mark married former co-worker and traffic reporter Jacqueline Silva, they decided to move back to the Midwest to start a family. That's when Mark dove into local news as an anchor/reporter at WGEM, the television station he grew up watching. He picked up valuable experience during the Flood of '93, when the station won numerous national awards, including the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award for its coverage.

Mark's commitment to his community prompted him to leave the news business in 1996 to work in economic development in both the public and private sectors in Illinois.

The journalism bug, however, got the better of him and he jumped back into television news as the anchor for the 5, 6 and 10 pm newscasts at WAOW in Wausau, Wisconsin for the four years prior to his move to New York.

Mark, Jackie and their two children are excited to make the Capital Region their new home. Mark loves the variety that morning news has to offer and appreciates the opportunity to help viewers you get their day started.
