Actor Hugh Jackman has paid tribute to Hollywood mogul Greg Coote, who died on Friday.

The Australian producer was the former chairman of studios Dune Entertainment and Village Roadshow and helped co-finance more than 60 movies including James Cameron's fantasy epic Avatar and sci-fi franchise The Matrix.

He passed away in Los Angeles on Friday aged 72 after a battle with cancer.

Jackman expressed his sadness in a post on Twitter.com, writing, "We have lost a pillar of our industry, and a huge supporter of Aussie film. RIP Greg Cotte (sic). You will be sorely missed."
