According to the National Cancer Society, more than one million people will get cancer, and more than half-a-million will die from it this year. One out of three people will get cancer in his or her lifetime. But you can fight those odds. Here are ways to reduce your cancer risk: *Don't smoke or use tobacco in any form. *Avoid overexposure to the sun, especially between eleven a.m. and three p.m.; and when in the sun, use sunscreen with a sun protection factor above fifteen or wear protective clothing. *Eat a diet high in fiber and low in fat. *Drink alcohol in moderation or don't drink at all. *Know and follow health and safety rules where you work. *Take hormone therapy only for as long as necessary. *And avoid unnecessary exposure to x-rays.
