Jewelry-making is a fun and creative activity, which can be adapted for kids of all ages. If you have toddlers, set them up with macaroni and food coloring. They can dip the macaroni into the food coloring, let it dry, and then thread it onto string or dental floss. If you don't want the mess of food coloring, cereal can be adapted in place of macaroni. The multi-colored, fruit-flavored, donut-shaped cereal is best. Plus, kids love the fact that their jewelry can be munched on after they're done. For older children, get out your button box, or buy packs of craft buttons and let them thread buttons onto a string. Drinking straws work well, too. The kids can thread pieces of bright-colored straws, cut into different lengths, onto strings to make necklaces. For older children, embroidery floss can be braided together to make friendship bracelets. Using different colors of floss and a different number of strands, and knotting their creations every so often will add variety and one-of-a-kind flavor to the crafts.
