BURNT HILLS, N.Y. - Administrators at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake say a couple students have come forward for chanting racial slurs at Saturday's football game against Amsterdam.
School officials sent a letter of apology to Amsterdam after the homecoming football game on Saturday night. Most of the game went smoothly, however toward the end of the game officials say a group of BH-BL students in the stands turned rowdy making inappropriate comments in reference to Amsterdam's large Hispanic population.
The coach at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake then took immediate action, threatening to forfeit the game unless the comments stopped.
BH-BL has posted on their school website that an apology letter was sent to students and staff at Amsterdam after some of their students "betrayed the code of sportsmanship" by chanting derogatory slurs during the October 12th game.
The school says that disciplinary consequences will be applied, though did not specify what actions would be taken or who was involved.
School administrators and the president of the student body at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake are scheduled to further address how they are handling the situation on Tuesday.
