SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – An executive tied to a Capital Region non-profit organization has been indicted on 15 felony counts.

According to Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, Jacqueline Gentile was arrested on Wednesday. Gentile is the Chief Operating Officer of 820 River Street, Inc. and The Altamont Program Inc., which are subsidiaries of the Peter Young Housing, Industries and Treatment.

Gentile’s indictment, which was voted by a Schenectady County grand jury, charges her with 15 felony counts. The charges include Grand Larceny. Gentile allegedly stole over $1 million in state funds by directing that state contracts, which were intended to help needy New Yorkers, be used to lessen organizational deficits and pay employee salaries.

Gentile is also accused of falsifying business records. Schneiderman says she completed false timesheets for former New York State Senator William Boyland, Sr. Boyland was supposedly a full-time employee but, according to documents filed in court, had what appeared to be a no-show job.

Gentile is the fifth high-ranking PYHIT employee to be charged with felonies. According to court documents, several witnesses have described to investigators a “culture of corruption” within PYHIT.

Gentile has been with PYHIT for over a decade.

"There's not one allegation that Ms. Gentile profited one penny. They're allegations are that a veterans shelter for example received money in one city and it was used for a veterans program in another city. There's absolutely nothing criminal here,” said Gentile’s attorney, Andrew Safranko.

Four other PYHIT employees have pleaded guilty to crimes including Grand Larceny and Falsifying Business Records.

PYHIT is an umbrella organization operating through five nonprofit subsidiaries in New York.
