CANAJOHARIE, N.Y. -- The Director of Emergency Services for Montgomery County says the Village of Canajoharie suffered the most damage from Thursday night's flooding.
The rain continued in the village of Canajoharie on Friday morning, and a DPW shed was flooded out last night.
Montgomery County is under a State of Emergency, and Jeffery Smith, the Director of Emergency Services has been assessing the damage all morning long.
The Village mayor, Francis Avery, says their drainage system was overwhelmed by the heavy rain fall Thursday night.
“We had about four inches of water in approximately two hours,” he said.
Officials say neighboring villages were called to help out -- pumping about 44 different homes.
The rushing flood waters damaged homes and infrastructure, including the DPW shed and the village Water Filtration Plant, contaminating the drinking water. A boil water advisory is now in effect for Canajoharie.
