COHOES, N.Y – As temperatures begin to rise and skies begin to clear, the city will celebrate the season with its first annual Safe Summer Festival in Lansing Park Saturday.
Cohoes Mayor George Primeau Sr., Albany County District Attorney David Soares and Pastor Charlie Muller will host the free community event beginning at 3 p.m. until a fireworks finale at dusk near the corner of Bevan and James streets.
City leaders say they are hosting the event to spread the message of having fun while staying safe in the upcoming season.
The ENOUGH Program will highlight anti-violence and public safety efforts of local government and law enforcement throughout the day, including Safe Child Identification card registry by the Albany County Sheriff's Office, Child ID Kits and safety tips for parents to take home. Sheriff's Office will also announce anti-violence youth programs that will be available this summer.
There will also be live demonstrations from the NYPUM Motorcrosss Minibike Team and youth participants of Albany Crossfit as they prepare for the 2013 Albany County Crossfit Youth Olympicfood. There will also be food, a bouncy bounce, prizes and games.
