ALBANY N.Y. – Power lines were down after a single vehicle auto accident ended with a car striking a utility pole Sunday afternoon.
According to Guilderland Police, the driver struck a utility pole snapping it in half before landing upside down on Route 20 in Albany.
A nearby driver and his wife say they were about to turn out of Stuyvesant Plaza when they saw the horrific crash.
According to Charles and Rosemary Frisbee, they were waiting to exit the Stuyvesant Plaza parking lot when the heard a noise that drew their attention to a car somersaulting through the air. Bringing the accident to its conclusion, the Frisbee’s saw the car collide with a utility pole, which also brought down power lines.
Frisbee said he rushed to the car involved in the accident to see if the driver was in need of help.
"We called 911. So I looked in the window and said are you OK and the woman was moaning,” said Charles Frisbee.
Officials say the driver, identified as say Eleanor McClellan-Mead of Vestal, was taken to the hospital after crews freed the driver from the vehicle.
The McClellan-Mead was taken to the Albany Medical Center to be treated for serious injuries.
"Oh God, no you never think anything like that but I hope everything works out well for her," said Frisbee.
Police are still trying to determine the cause of the accident.
