Family and friends remember Matthew Fiske

GRANVILLE, N.Y. – A fatal motor vehicle accident on I-87 southbound this weekend resulted in a death of 43-year-old Matthew Fiske of Rotterdam.

Now, the family of Matt Fiske is speaking about the tragic day and what they want people to know about his life.

Around 10:00p.m. Saturday, the lives Matt Fiske's family changed forever.

Fiske was killed when State Police say his 2006 Dodge Viper veered off I-87 south in Colonie. Police say Fiske hit a guide rail and sent the car down an embankment and into a tree.

His passenger, 45-year-old Colleen Seidel of Clifton Park was taken to Albany Medical Center with serious injuries.

Sadly, Fiske was did not survive the crash. His family friend, Ken Schenk says he wants people to remember his life and how he lived it.

"Matt had this huge personality that drew you into him. You wanted to be his friend, you were honored to be in his family," said Schenk.

Fiske was a family man leaving behind two children. His family says he was a hard worker and loving person. He was a graduate of Granville High School. Later attending college at SUNY Albany and Clarkson. He held two masters degrees and previously taught special education at Schalmont High School.

Currently, Fiske was the proud owner of Fiske Construction in Schenectady.

“We just loved him so much, we’re just in shock. We can’t believe this happened and our thoughts and prayers go out to the passenger in the vehicle,” Schenk said.

State Police are still investigating the cause of the tragic accident.

As for Seidel, police say her injuries are serious but believed to be non-life threatening.
