TROY, N.Y. - Police in Troy have arrested a man found to be in possession of a fully loaded 9 mm handgun with a high capacity magazine after reports came in for shots fired.
Raysheem Washington, 25, is the first Troy resident to be charged under the New York State SAFE Act.
Around 10:45 p.m. police drew their attention to three men last seen walking in the area south of the shots fired call, which occurred at Jefferson and Third Streets at approx. 8:30 pm.
Police found the alleged group walking nearby a short time later and were able to detain two of the men, but the third suspect ran from the scene. One officer gave chase and was able to physically engage the suspect and a struggle ensued.
As the officer was arresting Washington, police secured the fully loaded gun with 13 rounds of ammunition.
The officer involved in the struggle sustained a broken hand. He was treated and released from the hospital.
Washington has been charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd, Obstruction of Governmental Administration 2nd, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Marijuana.
