TROY, N.Y. – Police responded to the area of 18 Madison Avenue after a vigilant neighbor reported suspicious activity and a possible burglary in progress Tuesday night.
Police say neighbor noticed people surveying the property at approximately 10:30 p.m. and contacted police because of the hour. When police arrived on the scene, they also observed a male acting suspiciously outside the residence.
Shortly after the first suspect was detained, a second suspect exited the rear of the residence and attempted to escape on foot. Troy Police K-9 Elza was deployed and successfully took the teen attempting to run from police to the ground.
As the second subject was being apprehended, perimeter units discovered a third crawling from a window in an effort to escape and immediately placed him under arrest.
After police removed the occupants of the residence, who were sleeping through attempted burglary, Elza was released to conduct an interior check of the building. During the search, the K-9 found a fourth suspect inside the home.
Three of the teens were arraigned on criminal charges in Troy Police Court Wednesday morning and remanded to Rensselaer County Jail. Two 16-year-olds, both of Troy, were charged with Burglary in the 2nd degree and Resisting Arrest. A 17-year-old, also of Troy, was charged with Attempted Burglary in the 2nd degree
The fourth defendant, a 15-year-old, will be processed as a juvenile through the Rensselaer County Department of probation, facing a Burglary in the 2nd degree charge.
