GALWAY, N.Y. – The car a local postman used to deliver mail has been stolen.

Galway is considered a rural community, so Andrew Montenaro has to use his own vehicle to deliver mail. No matter the weather, 570 homes across 66 miles depend on him. It's a job he takes seriously but apparently a thief or thieves don't.

"It stayed here all seven years. I never had a problem. It's parked here. People know it’s my car. They say oh we see your sitting there and I've never had a problem,” said Montenaro.

Montenaro says he came to work on Monday and found that the car he uses to make his deliveries had been taken. The vehicle is a 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Seara and it had nearly 180,000 miles on it.

Montenaro reported it to the police but they believe it may have been stolen for scrap metal.

"He’s a coward for taking something. This is my livelihood; this is how I make money to support my family. I'm at a loss. I can't afford to just go out and get another car. So if I was face to face with him I would tell him, you're a coward for stealing,” said Montenaro.

Montenaro had another SUV that he used outside of work and has had to outfit it.

"I'm going to have to. I'm going to have to adjust my mirror like that, so I can get to the boxes,” he said.

But losing the vehicle means he is out two days’ pay.
