The word synchronize is a verb that means to happen at the same time.
"We have to synchronize everything from our feet to our arms and our heads," said Christina Lombardi, a skater on the Achilles Edge synchro team.
Getting two people in sync may be easy, but more than a dozen, is a pretty big feat.
"They really have to almost be reading each others minds as they are doing it," said Wayne Hussey, one of the coaches.
It helps that many of athletes on the Albany Figure Skating Club have been skating together for most of their lives.
"I've been skating with these girls for 10 years," said Aislyn DiRisio.
Some are even sisters.
But this harmony didn't come easy. "At the beginning of the season we were combining two teams no one really knew how the mesh was going to work," said Stephanie Hunter, the other coach.
What happened amazed them all. As their bonds strengthened, so did their skating. Perhaps those bonds were born out of necessity.
"If you're not feeling too good one day you are able to take the energy of the person next to you," said Isabelle Lombardi, one of the skaters.
Or because of their common passion. "You can forget about everything and just concentrate on what you're doing," said Grace DiRisio.
"We hear the music come on, we are in our costumes and we hear the parents and all the other teams there cheering for us it's just an awesome feeling," said Christina.
"When I leave here they crank me up so much because of their dedication to this," said Hussey.
Dedication to their sport and one another.
"With the team everyone is with you so you're not alone out there," said Katie Howard, another skater.
"They have just become a family I would say a little family, but it's a pretty big family," said Hunter.
Their friendship and their success have grown at the same time. In sync you could say, like everything else they do.
"You have to be able to depend on everyone - because in synchro it's not just about you," said Aislyn.
The girls were only one mark away from gold their last competition. Their coaches say they expect some gold medals will be coming up.
