CORINTH, N.Y. – Local and state officials met with close to 90 people Monday evening to discuss the recent high cost of energy bills.
National Grid and the Public Safety Commission were at the meeting Monday. Residents demanded answers from them, including why their bills were so high, who is profiting from them, and who’s going to make sure the high cost bills don’t happen again.
National Grid said it only profits from the delivery charge, and they claim they have not raised the cost. The power company said the suppliers who generate the power are charging more.
In addition, National Grid said the severe winter weather resulted in increased in usage. To some, it’s simply supply and demand, but to others it appears like there could be some wrongdoing.
The PSC which oversees the infantry on New York are investigating the power companies and will hold a fact finding meeting on May 15 to explore how the prices got so high very quickly and how it can be remedied in the future.
