KNOX, N.Y. – The standoff in the Town of Knox ended Thursday morning after the man who set his house on fire and threatened first responders turned himself in.
The man who set his house on fire in the Town of Knox and then fled the scene Wednesday night is in police custody.
A man set his house at 75 Saddlemire Rd. on fire late Wednesday night and threatened first responders. The man called 911 saying he was heavily armed.
Police said the man cut down trees in his driveway to prevent firefighters and police from entering his property.
The man threatened to leave the scene, so officials were advised to look out for his Chevy Silverado. The man was believed to be armed with a nine millimeter handgun, though the public should not have feared for their safety, according to police.
State Police said the man stayed on his property. He was heavily armed while officials negotiated with him, but the man turned himself in to police custody around 7 a.m. Thursday.
Police said the incident started because of “personal” reasons but did not go into detail.
The man lived alone at his property, and there were no injuries.
