GUILDERLAND, N.Y. – Five people were arrested on weapons and drug charges by the Albany County Sheriff’s Office.

After months of investigation, police discovered drug sales that were happening out of a motel office.

On March 31, investigators arrested Joshua Bojkovic, 27, of Guilderland, James K. Sawyer, 23, of Westerlo, Thomas H. McLaughlin Jr., 39, of Watervliet, Jennifer McLaughlin, 39, of Watervliet, and Jack A. Evans,19, of Delmar.

Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple called the arrests “a pretty good hit.”

“It just goes to show you what kind of activity is going on right now in the Capital Region,” he said.

Sheriff Apple said his department started to receive information about illegal drug activity at the Western Motel on Western Avenue in January. Apple said they were then able to develop an informant, make several controlled purchases, keep an eye on the property and file and execute a search warrant.

Investigators seized more than nine pounds of Marihuana, nine and a half ounces of powdered Cocaine, six and a half grams of MDMA, a small quantity of Hash (Concentrated Cannabis), several Xanax pills and three Glock semi-automatic handguns.

Police also found nearly $5,000 in cash believed to be proceeds from illegal narcotics sales.

“I don’t know what it is all of a sudden with the guns, but they’re starting to pop up,” Apple said. “There’s a lot more activity going on, but we’re able to get a lot of marijuana, a lot of coctain, and illegal handguns off the street.”
