CLAVERACK, N.Y. – A Columbia County brush fire burned several acres of a corn field on Monday.
The fire was put out as of 4 p.m. but not without doing extensive damage to a corn field. The brush fire burned around 15 to 20 acres.
Six fire departments were called to the area to contain the brush fire. Several homes were nearby but no structures were affected and there were no evacuations.
The dry weather with heavy winds in the Capital Region has many areas more susceptible to brush fires. As a result, a statewide burning ban was put in place until May 15. No one can openly burn trash leaves or excess shrubbery due to these weather conditions.
A forest ranger was assessing the damage in the field.
