LEWIS, N.Y. - New York State Police say a Ballston Spa man was killed when he became pinned underneath the ATV he was riding Monday night.

Police say 49-year-old Tyler Middleton was operating was operating a 2002 Polaris ATV on Mountain Springs Road, a logging road in the town of Westport, when for unknown reasons, the ATV exited the drivable portion of the road and traveled down a small embankment. The ATV overturned pinning Middleton underneath it.

Middleton was a member of the lease that he was operating his ATV on and he was traveling by himself. Middleton was discovered by fellow lease members who went looking for him when he failed to return home.

State Police were then called to investigate Monday around 11:20 p.m. They say the road he was on provides access to the Nichols Pond Association.

An autopsy was conducted on Tuesday and the cause of death was determined to be asphyxia due to the pressure on his chest. The death was ruled accidental.

The investigation is continuing and anyone with information is asked to contact SP Lewis at 518-873-2771.
