SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -– Police in Saratoga Springs have arrested a man who attacked another man with a machete during a cook out on Grand Avenue Tuesday night.
Officers were called to Saratoga Hospital after the victim was taken to the emergency room with a serious slash to the left side of his head just after 8:00 p.m. Tuesday. Upon interviewing the victim, police learned that he was attacked by 46-year-old Russell Duffney, of 149 Grand Avenue in Saratoga Springs, during a cook-out at Duffney's home on the city's west side.
Police say Duffney picked up a 36" machete and swung it at the victim's head cutting off part of the left ear and slashing the left side of the victim's face.
Police say they responded to Duffney's home on Grand Avenue, where he was located and taken into custody.
Officers are searching the area of Grand Avenue between Beekman Street and Walnut Street for the machete.
The injured man underwent surgery overnight to reattach his ear and is currently in serious condition at Saratoga Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Duffeny who has a lengthy criminal history and is presently on felony probation, has been charged with Assault 1st-degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon, both felonies.
He was taken to Saratoga Hospital for chest pains and is being treated while under police supervision. He will be remanded to Saratoga County Jail without bail when released.
