Very sad what happened to this gym member. Being I do not know him, I feel I can't comment on him personally. I do feel that he was obviously angry or distraught upon arriving at the gym. His actions obviously tell that story. I agree with many different comments that were posted. Why would a female be sent to a gym when the call stated clearly that it was a man tipping over 700 lb machines? If he was a threat to other male members there on site, why would a female officer be assigned to arrive there alone? I do believe she had to do what had to be done to subdue the guy, she clearly had no choice. He supposedly did shock himself though too, so it can't be the cop's fault entirely. Regardless, the man was someone's son, or maybe even brother or father, and my heart goes out to his family and friends. We all should know that media always paints an uglier picture hoping to gain ratings!

I've known Chad many years. Many took advantage of his loving heart and generousity - he and I had many late-night conversations about him being hurt by "friends". Chaddie B was not a monster. He wasn't a hulk and wasn't a raving lunatic like reporters & police tried to make out. Look at the postings on his legacy/TU page-- you'll get a gist of the kind of man Chad was and how he lived his life. He was a sweet guy-- who went out of his way to difuse situations when they came up. He wasn't a saint-- he absolutely would stand up for himself & friends in trouble. I think that's what SickodaBS is referring to of his meltdowns- but Chad really had to be pushed before he'd react. Could he have tipped over a 700 pound universal machine? Yes- but so can I - a girl who is far from a weightlifter -- if you push them right they tip pretty easily. I used to have to clean around them everynight when i worked at a gym, Gyms rarely secure the machines to the floor like they are supposed to so they aren't stabilized usually. I don't know why the deskstaff didn't lock the door after Chad left the building the first OR second time-- that's the main thing you learn about security. Parker142-- you're horrid -- Chad wasn't some jerk. I'd rather see no one get killed and police get properly trained on equipment and situations they will be entering. If 3-4 cops cannot control 1 person without using deadly force-- there is a serious problem. Simply put-- no one should be tased 4-5 times in a row within what the police claim to have been a 2 minute scuffle. 2 minutes, seriously. His first real trouble with police and he's dead? I think Chad would have rather been shot in the leg than tased to death. Chad was an amazing person who loved all. It's a tragedy his life was cut so short. I hope these last 2 horrible minutes of his life are not how people think he lived. They were an aberration of his loving ways.

Thank you sickodaBS I couldnt have said it better myself . These officers are making it seem as if this man was like the incredible hulk or something . Right now it has the media all in the cops favor . There is no way that man threw something 700 lbs with one hand. I also dont care how Irate and out of control he was , they should be trained and use to these types of situations . A man does not need to be tased four to five times . they murdered that man and I hope they get what they deserve

SickodaBS - You seem to have inside information about Chad, noting that this may have been "one of his meltdown" and implying that he had issues with substance. You should report your knowledge to both his family and the Colonie Police Department. You might be able to help everyone understand details that may have led to Chad's vulnerable physical condition.

And the way the media is painting The picture is comical , I highly doubt he picked up a 700 lb machine with one hand. He may have pushed it over whhich is entirely different than " picking it up with one hand." And the fb photo they showed on the news with the face paint ? come on ? looks like a certain municipality is on the defense of what could and should be a liability that should include not only a lawsuit but charges against the officers who had to discharge 3 different Tazers and hit the button more than once. And how convenient that they have video of Chad flipping out but video of them cooking Chaddy is non-existant ? Come On maaaan ? and every other time something like this happens they say, " autopsy results will take 3 weeks but this time they said they are doing it today and i'll bet dollars to donuts that they announce every substance that was in Chad's system. Did he have issues ? Yes . In my opinion they should review thier policies and maybe change it so someone else doesn't get the on the spot death penalty.

i knew Chad and i damn for sure wouldn't have wanted to been on the business end of one of his meltdowns but i will also say if this happened in Albany i don't think he would have been killed. i say this because i don't think Albany would have sent one female into a situation like that. I don't think CPD officers wanted to get their uniforms ripped or their hands dirty so they just gave him a " mobile electric chair." iF they followed protocall then so be it but i bet their actions could have constituted excessive force. I read he was hit once in the shoulder with a collapsable baton, he should have been struck in the head ! ! ! a fractured skullo beats a deep fried heart if you ask me.

That's a typical liberal freakin' track of mind, there h8ter. Maybe you should've been the officers responding to this call. Hell, hopefully YOU would've been killed. I'd rather see some jerk get killed than a cop, but that's just me :)

While I do agree with the civil liberties folks about excessive tasing, I think the officers in this situation clearly did everything they could and use the tazer as a last resort, and even then had trouble taking the mean down.

I agree with Myopin4u. You shouldn't be acting in a manner in which you could cause bodily harm to other people or police officers. I believe the police were in the right for tasing this guy. Their only other option would be to shoot him. There is no reason to act like this at all. This is truly unacceptable behavior. My heart goes out to his family and friends, but this needed to be stopped. He could have killed someone else. Imagine if he hit someone else with a weight in the head? Then what? I think a taser is better than just plain out shooting you

If you are acting in a manner which places a police officer or a fellow civilian in harm, you are also accepting the risk of being apprehended and the use of physical force being used against you! If the officer was not able to tase this man , the man, the next step would have been real bullets! Seems to me a stun gun is the better option. Be careful who you criticize without knowing the entire story!!
