TROY N.Y. - Deploying to Kansas Monday morning will be more than 200 National Guard soldiers from the 42nd Infantry division Headquarters.

Troops will be deploying as a part of a training exercise known as Warfighter.

The exercise will be testing the skills of the soldiers, assessing their ability to plan, communicate, and respond to a battlefield simulation.

Officials say the soldiers have been prepping for Warfighter for more than two years.

The exercise will run up to the last week of May when the troops will be returning home.

This Warfighter simulation is hosted by the US Army's mission command training program. Organizers say the goal is to better prepare these soldiers for any potential state of emergency or federal mission.

These soldiers will be joining others from Western New York and Hudson Valley area. They will be leaving for Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas at 6:30 Monday morning.
