SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – It was a special Mother’s Day for moms and their athletes, as they made their way to the New York State Rowing Championship.

It is one of the largest state championships for rowing and it is held at Fish Creek in Saratoga.

Those participating were happy to have warm and sunny weather on Sunday. More than 80 New York State teams, including one from Shaker High School, competed to win a spot in the NYS Rowing Youth Invitational. It was also a great chance for the moms to cheer on their kids to do their best.

Anne Calder, cheered on her daughter, as it was her last competition in high school.

“It’s tough. You want your kids to succeed, do well, feel good about the efforts they make. It’s my daughter’s last race, she’ll go to college next year,” said Calder.

The journey to get to the rowing championships is a hard one, but filled with memories of moms doing everything they can along the way.
