ALBANY, N.Y. – An early morning shooting on Lark Street has led to the charge of 2nd Degree Murder for one local man.
According to Albany Police, officers responded to Apartment #2 on 156 Lark Street for a report of the shooting around 12:40 a.m.
Police Officers located 33-year-old Charee Aiken-Maddox inside her residence. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Damien Zervos, 32, was the boyfriend of Akins-Maddox and has been charged with 2nd Degree Murder in connection to the woman's death.
Zervos, from Guilderland, allegedly shot Akins-Maddox in the back of her head with a Saiga 223 Remington riffle. The weapon has been recovered.
He was arraigned Thursday afternoon in Albany Police Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
Neighbors told News10 ABC that a couple recently moved into the apartment about two weeks ago.
According to police, the victim had four children, ages 5-19. They say the children were home at the time of the incident, although they were unharmed.
Another neighbor said they heard a lot of yelling prior to the time police say the shooting happened.
Police are still investigating the motive behind the shooting.
This is the second homicide in the City of Albany in the month of October.
