SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Police have confirmed that the death of a mother and son has been determined to be a murder-suicide.
Police say Patricia Ambrozak, 75, was the victim of a violent and fatal domestic assault. Authorities say their investigation revealed that on the morning of September 30, Patricia's son, John Ambrozak, 47, broke several of her bones and stabbed her, resulting in her death.
Authorities say John then stayed in the mobile home with his deceased mother for 12-14 hours before taking his own life with a single gunshot.
NEWS10 ABC's Jennifer Lee was at the Saratoga Springs mobile home where Patricia Ambrozak lived. She spoke with one neighbor, Robert Colvin, who remembered the mother and son fondly. He stated "This is a mother that loved her son dearly, this is a son that loved his mom."
The bodies were found on Friday at the mobile home park on Route 9P, which is near the Bayshore Tropic Hut and Marina, a bar and neighborhood which the family owned. A friend of Patty's was concerned when no one had heard from the mother and son for five days.
Colvin says he had his concerns but never to the point where he felt he had to call police. He continued to describe the family as well liked, "A lot of people knew John and Patty over there. Anyone that had a boat on the lake or did any type of boating and at one point stopped by for music or the food or had their boat over there."
Police records show John was arrested back in 2011 for assaulting his mother. Residents here tell NEWS10 ABC they don't know what's to come of this neighborhood now that the two owners are gone.
