CATSKILL, N.Y. – The Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA says a five-month-old puppy was found near Catskill mauled and abandoned.
According to the Humane Society, the puppy was found by a passerby on Saturday, August 24 in Jefferson Heights, a suburb of Catskill. Catskill Dog Control was called and the puppy was brought to the Columbia Greene Humane Society shortly after.
The dog was then examined and was found with serious wounds, possibly from another dog.
"The puppy was a victim of a heinous dog attack, and the owner apparently didn't want to pay for medical care," said Ron Perez, President/Investigator of CGHS/SPCA.
Veternarians then took care of the pup at the Chathams Small Animal Hospital. The puppy has been in intensive care for more than a week and is expected to make a full recovery.
Chathams Small Animal Hospital will be donating the majority of the recovery and medical expenses.
Anyone with information about this situation is encouraged to call the Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA Animal Cruelty Investigation unit at (518) 828-6044.
