TROY, N.Y. - After a possible car explosion on Tuesday, Troy Police are investigating.

According to Troy Police Captain Dewolf, a call came in about 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday in the area of 2277 Fifth Avenue. Police arrived to the area and found a 1990 Jeep with heavy damage.

After assessing the damage, it was determined there was no fire to extinguish and there was no one inside the vehicle. The inside of the vehicle has been damaged and the windows were blown out.

There have been no reported injuries related to the explosion.

The vehicle that was targeted was previously reported stolen by the owner out of Watervliet on Monday. Police say a motive or target is part of their investigation.

"That’s still speculation at this point. We've talked to the registered owner of the vehicle. He says he doesn't have any problems with anyone. So he doesn't think it was aimed at him. So it very well could be, heavy, heavy vandalism I guess you'd call it,” said DeWolf.

The New York State Police Bomb Squad and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, along with the FBI, are investigating the incident as a bomb in a car.

Authorities say the explosion had deadly potential.
