ST. JOHNSVILLE, N.Y. - Fire officials in the town of St. Johnsville say a suspicious fire broke out in an apartment complex overnight.
The St. Johnsville Fire officials says the fire started around 3 a.m. Wednesday and residents of nine apartments in the building at 12 Hough Street have been affected.
Officials say the fire started in the detached two-car garage behind the boarding house, where the owners tell NEWS10 ABC there is no electricty. The garage was compeletely destroyed, but the house is okay.
Bonnie Bent, the owner of the home, says the people live in the boarding house include several who are elderly and in poor health.
"It takes away from our people living here because we built it for people to have their rooms and we accommodate everyone to have a very nice place," Bent said.
While the fire is suspicious, residents will be allowed back into the home while the investigation into the cause is underway. The nine families affected should be back in their homes within the next couple of days.
There were no injuries reported and the apartment building is not a total loss.
