A New York State Trooper is killed in the line of duty. Trooper David Lane stationed out of the Catskill barracks, killed in a car crash Wednesday.
It happened on Route 32 in the Town of Catskill just before 2:30, just south of Cairo Junction Road.

Trooper Lane was just 30-years-old and had 4 years with the State Police. State Police say Lane was killed instantly but few other details are known.
It doesn't appear he was driving with his lights and siren activated and investigators are trying to determine where he was headed.
Major Ed Raso says, "there was a call just north of his location, he may have been responding, we are still trying to sort that out."

What is known is that this trooper was dedicated to public service. He had 4 years with the State Police and before that, served his country.
Raso says, "after 9/11 he enlisted and served in Iraq and Afghanistan because America was under attack. Thats the kind of guy he was."

And also well liked, one friend calling him a great man, and an excellent trooper. Raso says, "thats exactly what he was. Trooper Lane was top shelf, one of the best."

State Police say it will take weeks for a preliminary report to come back. Major Raso said he didn't know if Trooper Lane was wearing a seat belt.
