VT Police search for missing, injured girl

RUTLAND, Vt. - Vermont State Police are searching for a possible missing, and injured girl in Rutland that approached a car Thursday evening then ran into the woods.

Thursday around 5:17 p.m., the Vermont State Police in Rutland received a report of a possible endangered girl on West Proctor Road in West Rutland.

According to the caller, a young girl approached their car, indicated that she had been hurt, and exhibited physical injuries.

The callers said they were unable to keep the child at the vehicle and the female juvenile was last seen running into the woods.  

The unknown female child advised her name was "Angel" or "Angela". She appeared to be approximately 6-years-old and is described as a white female, with dark brown straight shoulder length hair, and was missing her left front tooth. She was last seen wearing a red skirt, white t-shirt, white flip flops, and a mood ring.

Police say there are no known reports of missing 6 or 7-year-old girls in the area.

The Vermont State Police Rutland Barracks, along with detectives with the Bureau of Criminal Investigations, responded to the area to begin a search and investigation.

Members initiated a hasty search, including a K9 unit, in the area of West Proctor Road and, at the time of this release, have not been able to locate the child.

Members with the Rutland County Sheriff Department, Vermont Fish and Game, Vermont National Guard, Rutland Town Fire Department, and New England K9 are assisting in the search.

At this time, the Vermont State Police are unable to issue an AMBER Alert, as the incident does not meet the criteria for an alert.

No other information is available at this time, as the case is actively under investigation.
