ALBANY, N.Y. – New owners are reopening the Madison Theater Friday with a nod to classic films.

The Madison Theater will have its grand reopening 85 years after it first began playing films.

The new owners downsized the theater from seven screens to two and will only play classic films.

The theater first opened in the 1920s and played silent films. The newly remodeled theater has kept to its roots with vintage art and décor.

The Madison Theater will mark its grand reopening with Paul Newman films such as “Cool Hand Luke” and “Slapshot.”

The theater will show four movies per week at $5 a ticket.

Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan and Assemblyperson Patricia Fahy will be on hand for the ribbon cutting at 5 p.m., and the first showing starts at 7 p.m.
