WATERVLIET, N.Y. -- A Watervliet man has been arrested after Colonie Police executed a search warrant at his home.
Len Kiel, 48, of Watervliet, is charged with two counts of felony promoting a sex performance by a child.
Authorities say that on two separate occasions, he used a file sharing program to send 84 images from his computer to an undercover officer. Through an investigation by the Colonie Police Department and members of the FBI Crimes against Children Task Force the defendant’s residence was identified as the location the child pornography was transmitted.
A search warrant was executed at his Fourth Street home Friday following a three month investigation, and police say it’s likely there are several thousand child pornography images on the seized devices.
He was booked, arraigned and remanded to Albany County Jail. He is due back in court on June 30. The investigation is on-going and more state or federal charges may be filed against the Kiel pending a complete forensic analysis of his media storage devices.
Police say there is no indication that he had contact with any underage victims in this area, but due to the nature of these charges the Colonie Police Department is asking that anyone who believes they were a victim of the defendant to contact their local police department or the Colonie Police Department at 783-2744.
Police say he wasn't a registered sex offender and that he didn't have a job that allowed him access to children.
