Partly in response to a massive write-in effort on the part of Star Trek fans, NASA's first space shuttle received the name "Enterprise." Nichols, Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, and most of the original series cast attended the shuttle's rollout ceremony on Sept. 17, 1976.  (NASA)
