SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - A $20,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the burglar who stole five gold and silver trophies during a break-in earlier this month at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame.
The thoroughbred racing museum announces Tuesday that the award is being offered in connection with the Sept. 12 smash-and-grab burglary. The thief made off with five historic trophies, including the Tiffany silver prize awarded to the winner of the 1903 Belmont Stakes.
Saratoga Springs police said last week that they believe the same person pulled off the theft of 14 trophies worth $300,000 from the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame in Goshen last December.
The Saratoga museum reopened Tuesday for the first time since the nighttime burglary.
