You can stop wondering what happened to the winning Powerball ticket sold at a Wilton Stewart's on Christmas Day; the winner came forward on Tuesday. Although the person's name or why it took more than a month for them to come forward and claim the prize remains unclear, many in the area are excited to find out who the mystery winner is.

"Isn't that something? That is unbelievable," said Schroon Lake resident Joe Koch.

"That's crazy that it took so long for someone to come through," said Jessica Balac of Gansevoort.

The manager at the Stewart's says he probably gets 100 questions a day about the mystery multimillionaire.

Wednesday marked the 39th day since the winning ticket was sold at the Wilton store.

Where has the winner been? Imaginations are running wild.

"Maybe they were away. Maybe they didn't realize it. They found it in their glove compartment," said Balac.

"Well, a lot of people thought they were at the dump, looking for the ticket," said Shane Cassidy of Wilton.

A few weeks ago, FOX23 News asked Stewart's if they could check their surveillance video from the time the winning ticket was sold to try to find this new multimillionaire. They said they couldn't do it. The reason why? On days when there are big jackpots, they print up quick picks in advance to make things go quicker here at the register so there's no way to pinpoint what time the big winner was sold.

Even though Uncle Sam will take a big bite out of the jackpot, the winner will still be left with a life-changing amount of money.

Some customers say if they won millions, they'd escape this weather.

"Probably go to Florida. I heard it was 65 degrees down there today," said Mark Powers of Wilton.

Many are hoping this store still has some luck left.

"It makes it seem more real when you actually hear that someone actually won something," said Andrea Wilson of Wilton.

The lottery is planning its press conference to reveal the winner. If that person is watching, call FOX23 News! We want to know who you are.
