SPEIGLETOWN, N.Y. – A Rensselaer County woman was reunited with her stolen dog Monday night.

Tanya Rautine was reunited with her dog Ricky Monday after he was allegedly stolen from her Speigletown home.

“I was just so happy to see him,” she said. “Got my baby back.”

The four-year-old French Bulldog was stolen Sunday night after thieves broke into Rautine’s house through her basement window. They also took a big screen television, tablets, and $200 her son received for Christmas.

But taking Ricky left State Police wondering why.

“They said that this is very strange,” Rautine said. “That normally when someone breaks in, they take electronics.”

NEWS10 ABC aired a story Monday about the stolen dog. Soon after, Rautine received a call from a South Troy resident stating she had Ricky.

“A lady just called my cell phone saying she had seen the information that my dog was missing,” Rautine said.

The woman told Rautine that two kids dropped Ricky off at her house only an hour before.

“They said ‘Hey lady, do you want a dog?’” Rautine explained.

Rautine and her friend Kyle Felton went to the woman’s neighborhood and spotted Ricky on the sidewalk. Ricky immediately ran toward them, according to Felton.

“I’m glad for Tanya that her dog is back,” Felton said. “It’s like her child.”

State Police arrived soon after the reunion to question the South Troy woman.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
