TROY, N.Y. – To support gun owners in his congregation, a local pastor is hosting a gun giveaway at his church.

One person is going to win an AR-15 during a giveaway hosted by Grace Baptist Church and sponsored by the Oakwood Trading Post.

Pastor John Koletas said he wants to support the right to bear arms.

“We believe legal gun owners and hunters have been attacked viciously by politicians and the media,” he said.

But other local pastors, like Charlie Muller who focus on getting illegal guns off the streets, thinks the giveaway is the wrong way to draw attention to a church.

“He does not represent Christianity. He does not,” Muller said. “I don’t know what would motivate someone to do that, especially a pastor. My question to them is why do they have locks on their doors.”

Koletas said the AR-15 is legally modified by the State of New York and to give a legal gun away is not a crime.

“We have the biblical, god-given right to attack those who attack us,” he said.

The giveaway will take place on March 23.
