AMSTERDAM, N.Y. – Police say they are investigating an animal cruelty case after a puppy was found abandoned.
On Sunday, Amsterdam Police say they received a phone call about a distressed puppy on Union Street. Officers found a lab/beagle mix dog, about 8 months old. Owners were not able to be located.
According to authorities, the dog was found severely emaciated. Veterinarians at the SPCA of Montgomery County diagnosed the puppy with a severe case of malnutrition and low sodium levels.
The veterinarians also said the dog weighed 24 pounds but should have a weight between 40-45 pounds.
The puppy has been named “Dolce” and is under constant vet care until her condition improves.
Police are now asking the public for any information regarding the abused and abandoned animal.
Anyone interested in donating to the SPCA to help with Dolce’s medical bills can send donations to the Country Valley Veterinary Clinic in Amsterdam.
