ALBANY, N.Y. – Mayor Jerry Jennings and City of Albany officials celebrated the 9th Annual Juneteenth Celebration in Washington Park Saturday.

Juneteenth has long been a celebration of freedom, as the date symbolizes the end of slavery and serves as a historical milestone reminding Americans of their later emancipation. It also serves as a day to honor those who survived the of bondage.

From noon to 6 p.m. area residents celebrated the city's history and potential for positive changes in the future with a host of family fun events, including a talent and variety show, musical performances and a dance-off competition.
