SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Job fairs will take place today, Friday and Saturday for an opportunity to work at the Saratoga Race Course during the 2013 meet.
Peter Goulet, the facilities manager of the race track, said the New York Racing Association is looking to hire 2,000 employees for the summer season.
"These jobs include virtually every department that we have to run the race track," he said. "You name it, we have a summer job for anyone that is coming out looking for one."
Opportunities are available for security, ushers, parking attendants, cleaning, utility workers, retail clerks, wait staff, cooks, cashiers, barbacks, pari-mutuel betting clerks and more. Positions are available with NYRA, Centerplate, Union Square Events, Forum Staffing Services and Pritchard Sports and Entertainment.
Interviews will be held at the Carousel near the East Avenue Gate. Interview days and times are as follows:
Thursday, June 13 from 2 to 6 p.m.
Friday, June 14 from 2 to 6 p.m.
Saturday, June 15 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Interviews for Shake Shack positions with Union Square Events will be conducted on Friday and Saturday only.
All applicants must be at least 16 years old, have a photo ID and social security card or I-9 alternative. Pari-mutuel applicants must be at least 18 years old and have cash handling experience.
Goulet said NYRA expects over 1,000 people to come interview today and even more through Saturday because locals know it's exciting to work at the race track.
"There's no other summer job like the ones here at the summer race track," he said. "You hear people come back and they say, 'I've worked here before' or 'My parents worked here'. It's almost like a rite of passage in this area to work at the Saratoga Race Course."
The 2013 meet will run for 40 days from July 19th through Labor Day, September 2nd.
This year marks the 150th anniversary of the first organized thoroughbred race meeting in Saratoga which took place over the course of four days in August 1863.
