ALBANY, N.Y. – The Jewish community in the Capital Region is hoping the conflict in the Gaza Strip doesn’t continue to escalate.

Lauren Iselin of Delmar returned to New York Thursday night after spending a week in Israel. She said that despite the conflict, she had an amazing time, felt safe and noticed people were calm and relaxed about the situation.

Iselin, however, did have to go into a safe room of her hotel two different times because rockets were shot into the air – something she had never experienced before.

“But the people who work there were calm and very relaxed as were all the people who were staying there,” she said. “We felt safe. We were in the safe room for about five minutes and immediately went back out and had a normal life.”

Iselin said she never feared for her safety, but she wants peace in the region, so people there don’t have to live in fear.
