AMSTERDAM, N.Y. – A puppy found in a local ditch was put down Wednesday because his injuries were too severe.

According to the Amsterdam Dog Control Office, the six-month-old pitbull had multiple fractures to its back, legs and jaw. The dog, which has been named Trooper, also suffered from malnutrition and was found in an emaciated condition.

The Amsterdam couple who found the dog and brought it to get care at the Amsterdam Animal Hospital believe Trooper was abused and abandoned. They said they found him in a ditch along Touareuna Road.

“I went down in the ditch to get this dog, and it was horrible,” Dennis Kimball said. “Such a sad thing to see. I picked him up; called my wife.”

Trooper was taken to an orthopedic doctor Wednesday, but the Kimballs want justice.

“I checked his nails,” Dennis described. “They still had the little points on them because he’s about five-months-old. He had not been running. Somebody dumped this dog off, and I’m just hoping they can do something for him. This is unacceptable to treat animals or anyone that way. This is unacceptable."

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office confirms it is investigating the incident but would not comment further.

Poor little pup never had a chance, prob connected w/the dog fighting scumbags. They do everything they can to make the dogs mean, starve them, beat them or use them as practice targets for other dogs in training. In Phila., New York & most other big cities have large numbers of pit bulls, pick-up the paper you'll see them for sale. There's a new game in town for pit-bulls though which is a dangerous one. The breeding of pit bulls to look like fighting dogs but will say they are pets or guard dogs or any number of other claims. They are referring to them as 'The American Pit Bull Terrier' & I've read some ads claiming they are AKC registered which is false as the AKC has refused to acknowledge the 'The American Pit Bull Terrier' as a breed. These dogs are bred to look scarier than any of the fighting pit bulls. Frame like a tank & so heavily muscled they are in danger of a host of bone/muscle diseases common to the large and giant breeds such as HOD & OCD. A dog bred to be a family pet should not have such a thick, massive amount of muscle around the neck, shoulders etc., a 'prong' collar is needed to control the dog! They have also not gotten rid of the instinct we've bred into this breed to WANT to FIGHT! The number of injuries from 'Bully Pit Bulls' is higher than any other breed. The other dangerous trend is animal activists who are trying to help on the individual level with each dog they 'rescue' from the fighting ring. Yes it's horrible what is being done to these dogs and yes I think the penalty for the fighters should be so severe there is no chance they'll EVER do it again. When will people start to gain the presence of mind to know we've got to stop breeding these dogs. They are a genetic mess which crosses over into the genetics of the dog they claim is such a wonderful tempered, sweet dog. There are other breeds which don't carry the same risks. All dogs bite but pit bulls were bred to do maximum damage. Time to stop breeding monsters for dogs.
