BALLSTON SPA N.Y. –A teen from Ballston Spa overcame losing everything in a house fire in order to finish his Eagle Scout project.
Eddie Rock, 17, has been working to put together his final project to become an Eagle Scout since January.
An Eagle Scout is the highest rank in the Boy Scouts. In order to achieve the title, teens must work their way through the ranks and create a long lasting project in the community.
Rock’s project was to bring dozens of military organizations to Saratoga County to raise awareness in his community. Unfortunately, Rock lost months of hard work in a house fire two weeks ago, right before his project was set to take place.
"I didn’t get discouraged I thought this is my one chance to be an Eagle Scout and I need to do it,” said Rock.
Eddie’s project has completed and was displayed at the Saratoga County Fair Grounds Sunday.
"We were teetering on the edge of not making this happen, but he is a resilient kid and that’s what they are taught to be that’s why he is an Eagle Scout because he is rising above a crisis," said Eddie’s father, Doug Rock.
For those who would like to help the Rock family rebuild their home, donations are being accepted at the Ballston Spa National Bank Headquarters.
