BERNE, N.Y. -- Clean up continues after storms throughout the region left damage in their wake.

Parts of Berne were hit hard with torrential rains, large hail, and heavy winds.

Those winds were strong enough to destroy an entire utility pole, leaving power lines in a tangled web as crews worked roadside and down into the woods to clean up the mess.

Most of the area is still without power, and employees at one Mobile gas station were working in the dark.

While they’re still open, they have to turn away customers looking to fill up. They say the nearest convenience store is an inconvenient 20 minutes away.

“We’re the only store around up here. So if people need something quick, they just need a soda or they need ice, we’re selling lots of ice or milk they don’t really want to have to drive off the hill down to Stewarts,” said employee Lyn Thomas.
