A man is found dead in the stairwell of a Troy housing complex, and while detectives work through the night to figure out what happened, now some residents are scared.
Troy Police say they are investigating the discovery as a homicide.
And although the detectives on scene at the Taylor Apartments are keeping pretty tight lipped about the facts involved, FOX23 News has learned that it was a 38-year-old white male who was found dead, in the stairwell near the second floor.
Troy Police Captain John Cooney says so far, it appears the victim had been shot to death.
Summer Johns is a Taylor Apartments resident.
She said, "I heard from a neighbor that a little girl in this building found the body in the staircase, and I guess she went and told somebody, and they called the cops, and I heard that he doesn't live… that he's not from this building."
But Captain Cooney says the Troy Police Department's investigation has revealed it was an adult who discovered the body in the stairwell.
Either way, at around 5 p.m. yellow police tape blocked off one of the main entrances to the Taylor Apartments, and for several hours Troy officers could be seen making their way in and out, and in and out and in and out of the building while investigating the matter.
Johns said, "I think it's sad. We do have public safety here, but I don't know. It's broad daylight, so it's weird."
As for the investigation, Troy Police Detectives on scene weren't saying much.
Sgt. Tim Colaneri took questions from the media while sitting on the front steps of the Taylor Apartments.
One reporter asked, "Were there any signs of a struggle?"
Sgt. Colaneri answered, "No comment."
Our FOX23 News reporter asked "Was the weapon recovered?"
Sgt. Colaneri answered, "No comment."
Another reporter questioned, "Do you think this is drug related?"
Sgt. Colaneri said, "No comment."
Then, our FOX23 News reporter wondered, "Did anyone you interviewed say, or claim that they knew this person?"
To that Sgt. Colaneri replied, "No comment."
Detectives seemed to focus much of their attention on a small alleyway near the main entrance to the building, even collecting several brown paper evidence bags, and taking them away from that area.
Captain Cooney was able to confirm that the victim in this case was not a Taylor Apartments resident, but declined to comment as to whether the department had identified a suspect in this case.
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed on the victim Monday morning at Albany Med.
