COHOES, N.Y. – Two area police agencies were investigating a body that was found in an apartment on Canvass Street Monday night.

Officers responded to a call to the Canvass Street apartment at 7:06 p.m. after a neighbor reported he found the occupant of the apartment deceased inside his residence with burn marks on his body.

Police are releasing only a few details at this time, however, they have confirmed that the body has been identified as a 55-year-old male.

According to authorities, the body was found on Monday at around 7 p.m.

They say burns were found on the man's body. Cohoes Police believe that they did not occur at the scene where the body was found, which led them to call the Troy Police Department.

Police say that initially the facts in the case and the time line that could be established appeared the death could have coincided with the rash of fires that occurred in Troy. Troy Police Detective Daniel Dewolf said they looked into many leads involving the Troy arson and confirm that police did go to Cohoes for more information.

According to Cohoes Police, further leads established and lead follow ups led the investigation away from the possibility he was involved in the fires in the city of Troy.

"They thought we would want to know this and be interested in it and we are so we sent detectives over there, to be speaking with the Cohoes detective, and at this point it’s just a lead, there is nothing more than that that I can release right now," said Dewolf.

After speaking with friends and family of the deceased, the male party was found to frequent The Grafton Peace Pagoda, and recently had a falling out with management of that facility. When authorities checked the location, they discovered physical evidence that confirmed the man’s presence there at the times in question and that a fire had occurred.

The identity of the male party is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin, and a cause of death has not been established. Authorities say that an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
