Transportation officials say the Lake Champlain Bridge that connects New York and Vermont can't be fixed and must be replaced.
The 80-year-old bridge was closed last month, after New York engineers determined it was unsafe.
Engineers say the bridge is too unstable to be renovated.
A temporary ferry system will be in place as soon as possible to help the 3,000 people who cross the bridge every day
